Brooke had a set back with her Cushings routine. In November she went for her routine cortisol level check and the level was very low. The drug she takes to lower her cortisol (vetoryl) was immediately stopped and we waited for the symptoms of excess thirst, hunger, peeing, panting and restlessness to reappear. It didn't take long; a marked increase in thirst and peeing was seen within days and 10 days after stopping medication another ACTH test was done; this involves two or three blood draws and an injection, so to say the least it is not her favourite thing. The results from this test showed that her cortisol level had risen to the level of needing medication again, and she was started on compounded trilostane. This is the same active ingredient that is in vetoryl and used to treat Cushings Disease, but by using this we will have more opportunity to find the optimum dose to control her symptoms and keep her cortisol levels in a safe range. She will need more ACTH stim tests to get it fine tuned. The medication she is on now- 20mg of trilostane daily costs $95 per month.

During this time we took Brooke outside more often and she only had two accidents in the house. She does try hard with house training and has been very good with frequent trips to the back yard. Such a sweet little girl!
